The Door

Go and open the door.
Maybe there's a dog rummaging.
Maybe you'll see a face,
or an eye
or the picture
of a picture.(.....)
Go and open the door.
Even if there's only
the darkness ticking
even if there's only
the hollow wind
even if
nothing
is there
go and open the door.
At least
there'll be
a draught

Miroslav Holub (1962)

The poem was given to 9-10 year olds to read and then start their own under a new title (The open door)

Here are some (only a couple of names and ages)

The open door

Go and open the door
Maybe ther's a golden shimmering treasure chest
shining with three suns,

Go and open the door
Maybe there are sticky sweet houses
maybe there are green and black tigers
that smell of blossom,

Go and open the door
There might me five silver
moons,

Go and open the door,
Maybe there's another city
outside in the world
go and open the door

Amelia

The open door

Go and open the door
Maybe there's a small bungalow with shattered windows
or a snake with one blazing red eye.

Maybe there's a mysterious smell of vinegar
mixed with strawberries in a dark corner.

Go and open the door, maybe there's a dark hole going down for hundreds of metres,
maybe there's even a soft hiss coming from the hole.

Maybe there's a golden sword lying on the floor,
maybe there's faint footsteps slowly getting louder.

Maybe there's a mask with a hypnotic gaze.

Go and open the door.
Maybe there's nothing behind the door,
well,at least that's something

The open door

Go and open the door
Maybe outside there's a golden yacht
shimmering in the sun.

Maybe there are two bright moons
like eyes staring down at the earth.

Maybe ther's a unicorn
pacing the High Street at midnight.

Maybe there's aterminator
Who is shy and prefers dandelions to death.

Maybe there's a talking telescope
That could keep me company at school

Declan

The open door

Go and open the door
Maybe outside there's another city
With  tower blocks that touch the sky.

Maybe there's a cat slinling
Along a brick wall.

Maybe there's akettle
Whistling a tune to itself.

Maybe there's a lamppost
Bending down to tickle
A tree's toes.....

I have been working in schools for a really long time but this was a revelation......

Go and open the door It’s your Fear Asking for you, your sweat and your tremble. Afraid of ringing the bell Unable to shout to you It stands at the door And set fire to its wood. Go and open the door It’s your Sadness Asking for you, your silence and your numbness. Too drained to press the bell Too tired to whisper or yell It stands at the door, Now flooded by its tears. Go and open the door It’s your Anger Ready to fight, ready to battle. Going up and Down. Like a bomb that is going to explode In 3 seconds, 3 heartbeats, 3 lines. Go Open the door … A.T (20yrs 0ld) Open the door There is something hiding behind It is a little star, singing a lullaby. Go open the door You might find one waiting for you. Go open the door Do not hesitate It might be your chance To sing your own lullaby. Rea M (20 yrs old) Go and open the door Maybe something is waiting for you there Under the the big sky Maybe the night is calling you to discover the magic of the world around us. Go and open the door Otherwise the magic is lost. Mar K (20 yrs old) Go open the door Maybe there is a seed trying to blossom without any water Go open the door maybe there is a newborn cat looking for a family Go open the door Maybe there is a lonely child looking for a family Go open the door, close your media account Maybe there is the real life Chara Z (20yrs old) The open door Hold open this door so that you see what lies behind hold the door; better be open head towards without an ounce of fear no hesitation; not a tear though keep in mind to always let prosperity come in let the refreshing breeze of life fulfil your soul. Constance N (20yrs old) The open door … a poem by me (Theano K) 20yrs old Go and open the door because it might be something unexpected like all the things everyone else described before ..but go… go and open the door because it also might be the delivery you,ve been expecting so many days!!!
