Once upon a time , the breeze that came down from the side of the mountain every evening passed over a pond.
And he immediately fell in love with her.
So, every evening, he would put on his best and, on the way , he would pass over a rose bush, be scented in the sweet perfume of the roses and then would go to present himsef to his love and talk to her, expressing his profound love.
But the pond remained silent.
And the frogs that lived on her banks croaked mockingly at him.
Then, ine evening, as he was approaching the rose bush, a mighty gale blew and pushed him so that through the rose bush and its thorns he went.
Later, all torn to shreds and unscented, he came to his love, miserable.
And she spoke to him.
" Now I can have you, now that you come without any adornments, you as who you really are...."

I was told this story by a Cretan storyteller and songwriter, Loudovikos of Anogia
